Guests and visiting positions
We are proudly hosting at every point in time several visitors, from all levels of academia or other places. There are many ways how guests can visit us – from just for an hour during a group meeting to present and discuss, to visitors who stay for days, months, or even years. If the topic of collaboration makes sense, please contact us via email.
Below we provide some information that has helped our past visitors. We also have more information on student internships or visits on our students page.
Funding
We are aware of several funding opportunities, of which we have applied for already successfully, such as:
- Erasmus+: https://erasmus-plus.ec.europa.eu/opportunities/individuals/students/traineeships-abroad-for-students
- DDSA Visit Grants: https://ddsa.dk/visitgrant/ – Submit your application at least 1 month prior to the visit.
- RECRUIT Sabbatical Grants: https://novonordiskfonden.dk/grant/recruit-sabbatical-grants-2026/
Visa logistics
See: https://nyidanmark.dk/en-GB/You-want-to-apply
From EU countries: Since Denmark is in the Schengen Area you don’t need a visa to get into the country. You can come with a National ID Card or a Passport and stay legally for 90 days. If you stay for more than 90 days, there is some more bureaucracy to tackle, see link above.
From non-EU countries: We are as happy to welcome visitors from non-EU countries. Unfortunately, due to Denmark’s strict rules regarding residence and work permits, you need to allow at least 3 months in advance for all the paperwork, and you will have to bear costs in the order of 400-1000 EUR. (See our ITU-internal document)
Prepare for your stay
If you come for a short-term visit (= usually 1-4 days, no access card needed) let us know, as ITU might have agreements with local hotels. (See our ITU-internal document)
If you come for a long-term visit (= usually 4+ days, access card needed), consult the “Settling in” guide from one of our PhD students: https://github.com/NERDSITU/research-resources/blob/main/settlingin.md
From our side, we will assist you via our ITU-internal guide (only accessible to ITU employees). If you visit more than 90 days, there is some more bureaucracy to tackle, see Visa logistics above.
